About the course

Polilengua’s Introduction to Translation is a 5-week comprehensive course. It aims primarily at enabling students to translate Arabic texts into English and vice versa. It focuses on cultural and linguistic differences between the two languages to draw their attention to the difficulties facing the translator.

This course focuses on modern translation techniques to give you valuable experience of the  project and terminology management tools that are used in professional practice. This Course is taught by professional translation lecturers who will equip you with a good knowledge base and practical skills to launch an exciting career in the language services industry.

    • Translation Methods and Techniques

    • Principles of Journalistic and Literary Translation
      Understand the specific rules and challenges involved in translating news articles and literary texts.

    • Freelancing and the Translation Industry
      Gain insight into working as a freelance translator, including platforms, pricing, and client communication.

    • Fundamentals of Proper Linguistic Formulation
      Master the basics of correct and stylistically appropriate language usage in both source and target texts.

    • Practice with Various Text Types
      Engage in hands-on translation exercises across different genres and disciplines to build confidence and competence.

    • Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools
      Get trained in using industry-standard software tools that support and streamline the translation process.

We offer two learning systems, either you attend online live interactive sessions or watch recorded sessions

Asynchronous learning

If you don’t have time to attend live sessions, you still can enrol in the course. You can watch the recorded sessions and you can always get back to your lecturer for any incomprehensible points or if you need to inquire about something. There will be continuous follow-up with the lecturer to make the most of the course.

Lecturer

Dr. Mohamed Saleh, is the head of the Department of Translation and Interpreting Polilengua.com.  He is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University. He has worked as a translator and telephone interpreter for more than 6 years, collaborating with many institutions locally and internationally. Dr. Saleh is a Certified Digital Citizen, certified from the United Kingdom, specializing in translation technology. Dr. Saleh has conducted numerous academic researches in the field of translation and languages, the most recent of which was published in the Center for the Developing English Language Teaching (CDELT Journal) at Ain Shams University. Dr. Saleh is a short story writer and has many published works. In addition to being an academic lecturer, he also specializes in Subtitling and visual content. He has translated many films from English into Arabic and vice versa, including the famous series “The Vampire Diaries,” which is shown on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
