About the course
This course aims at enhancing learners’ basic interpreting skills. The course is designed to be an introduction to fundamentals of conference interpreting from English into Arabic and vice versa. It covers techniques of at sight, consecutive, and simultaneous interpreting in a variety of texts (e.g. journalistic, business, medical…etc). The course includes theoretical and practical aspects and tasks, enhancing the skills of the students. The class will be conducted in both English and Arabic, as the instructional materials, assignments and activities compass both languages.

Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students should:
- Master different interpreting techniques and become able to employ them, while respecting the speaker’s intentions and register.
- Understand the difference between translation and interpretation.
- Manage stress, breathing and public speaking fright.
- Employ various techniques to produce a logical progression of ideas in the TL.
- Interpret consecutively and simultaneously a 2-5-minute simple text
- Develop expertise in their working languages in practicing interpreting.
- Demonstrate a thorough command of their working languages while interpreting.
- Enhance the speed of the mental process while interpreting.
